Promen (and Hennessy)
Welcome.
We're always striving to
teach students that being skilled in
"horsemanship" is more than just knowing
how to ride.
Our Instructor Karrin
Winslow has developed a program for our
students that will further develop their
"ground skills." The first six-month
session of "The Bookmark Farms
Academy of Horsemanship" opens this
weekend (Jan. 14) and runs once a month
through June. The curriculum covers
advanced grooming skills, equine
nutrition, equine healthcare, first aid,
stable management and horse
conformation. Karrin has invited each of
us Bookmark Farms trainers/instructor to
speak to the group on occasion, and has
plans to schedule other equine
professionals (for example vets and
farriers) to talk. Students will be
periodically tested for the opportunity
to earn certificates and "level up".
Interestingly, these Academy Levels are
based solely on the students ground work
knowledge; their riding ability will
have no influence on their level.
We're excited to say that
we have an eager group of students
signed up and ready to add to their
skills and knowledge. We look forward to
watching them realize how much there is
to know beyond being in the saddle.
Learning new aspects of horsemanship
will only make them better riders and
better partners for their horses'
welfare!
The next six-month
session begins in July but students are
welcome to join at any time. We have a
lot of interest in these courses from
our teen riders, and we encourage our
adult riders to take advantage of this
equine educational opportunity as well!
Is it too soon to be
thinking about Summer Camp? For kids,
our camp is a great opportunity to be
introduced to horses and/or further their early
horsemanship and riding skills. One the
great things about our camp is we take
children as young as four years old. I
developed our camp program over 20 years
ago, so we have a long tradition of
safely introducing even little children
to being around horses and riding.
Believe it or not, we've
already had calls for our 2012 camp schedule as
parents are planning their family summer
schedules. Don't forget, we have early
registration discounts available.
Register for Bookmark
Farms Horse Lover's Day Camp before
February 1st and you will receive a
$25.00 discount and a free Bookmark
Farms t-shirt. If you
received a coupon for camp when you came
for a holiday pony ride, you can combine
the two discounts for a real savings.
There are also family discounts and
multi-week discounts.
Please take some time to
read about our stable and services here
on our website. Thanks for visiting.
